Rice Bag Warmers or Cool Packs

These handy items can be heated in the microwave or kept in the freezer for booboos or muscle aches.  If you plan to heat yours in the microwave,  you will need to use 100% cotton fabric and thread.

This month’s project features simple construction so your creativity can shine.  You can use piece together scraps, use contrasting thread or any decorative stitches available on your machine.   Consider using an old flannel shirt (100% cotton) to make a few smaller bags for handwarmers for winter outdoor events.    They make great gifts and you can proudly say, “I Sewed it @ the Library.”

Materials:

1 fat quarter or 1/2 yard of 45” fabric – check out the remnants section.

Scissors

Thread (100% cotton if you are putting your rice bag in the microwave.  Look for the yellow spools.)

Pins

Enough regular white rice to fill your bag

Sewing machine if available  - a limited number of sewing machines are available for your use.

December’s I Sewed It will be a UFO (unfinished object) open session. If you have something you didn’t quite get to complete, time, space, good company, and help will be available.
